The woman is the queen of irreverence. And all things hip. And she's
brain-stumblingly bold.
She writes about "schtupping." Reminds, twice, not to smoke
pot or inhale cocaine while pregnant. Tells us all about how she was
pregnant and unmarried to Mr. Wrong. And she does this--all this--in
a handy-dandy new-mother's guide.
As she herself pretty much says, this sure ain't Dr. Spock. "I'm
Too Sexy for My Volvo: A Mom's Guide to Staying Fabulous", will
have you gulping, and occasionally gulping for air amid hilarious
passages. Betty Londergan, former ad-world wunderkind, now mother
of Lulu, wants us all to keep our inner babe while bringing up baby.
In 101 Rules, she gets us through pregnancy, delivery and the whole
first year, along the way admonishing us to never let the nurse divulge
what's on the scale; advises us to seek out the sexiest see-through
undies ever; and tells us to buy an armload of cool bracelets since
so many photos of Mama holding Babe will show off Mama's naked forearms.
About those bangles: "You may not feel terribly glamorous right
now, but sometimes what you seem to be is what you will become. Which
is sort of deep, now that I think about it."
